Kickstarter

Essentially, Kickstarter is a community created to assist filmmakers, musicians, bands, artists, and other Creative types offer support for creators to find, and raise resources for their projects, helping them reach their success goals.

They have been quite effective in helping both large, and small projects by these creative types stay on track, focused, and raise the required funds to launch their new projects.

To date, over 10,000,000from across the earth, from countless countries, have supported and back Kickstarter projects. The beauty of the Kickstarter program is every artist utilizing their services maintains complete control over their project, and work, all the while getting the public exposures, and receiving financial support from their followers.

Enters the new kid on the block “Patreon” – Watch Video

Like Kickstarter, Patreon is a membership platform that makes it easy for creators to get paid. Here is their description of their program in their own words:

“For creators, Patreon is a way to get paid for creating the things you’re already creating (webcomics, videos, songs, whatevs). Fans pay a few bucks per month OR per post that you release, and then you get paid every month, or every time you release something new. Learn more about becoming a creator on Patreon HERE.”

“For patrons, Patreon is a way to join your favorite creator’s community and pay them for making the stuff you love. Instead of literally throwing money at your screen (trust us, that doesn’t work), you can now pay a few bucks per month or per post that a creator makes.

For example, if you pay $2 per video, and the creator releases 3 videos in February, then your card gets charged a total of $6 that month.  This means the creator gets paid regularly (every time she releases something new), and you become a bonafide, real-life patron of the arts.

That’s right–Imagine you, in a long frilly white wig, painted on a 10-foot canvas on the wall of a Victorian mansion.  And imagine your favorite creators making a living doing what they do best… because of you.”

Getting Paid

It can take 1-2 business days to process your payout via PayPal and 2-5 business days to process via Stripe and Payoneer global bank transfer.

Have your pledges processed?

Hop over to your patron manager, where you’ll see all of your paid posts and patrons currently pledging to you. You will only receive payouts to your account if you have patrons actively pledging to you.

If you are on a “per post” page, your patrons would have needed to be pledging to you before you posted a paid post; if you are on a monthly, they will have needed to join before we started processing payments on the 1st of the month.

The bottom line

If you would like an alternate method to expose your projects to potential followers, and financial supporters, consider setting up your own Patreon account. It’s easy to do quickly with little effort and can be a new resource for raising financial support. Give it a try.
